SALEM - Halle Toman, 85, born January 14, 1928, in Mehama, Oregon, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 in Salem. The daughter of a WWI and WWII Navy veteran, Wilson R. Stevens, and a school teacher, Leora Z. Stevens, Halle grew up in Lyons, Oregon and graduated from Mill City High School. In 1947, she married Albert W. Toman from Mill City, Oregon. They lived in Mill City and in 1955, they moved to Salem, Oregon. Halle worked as a teacher's aide for Salem-Keizer Public Schools at Hayesville Elementary School from 1968-1990. She was a life member of Eastern Star, a Shriners' Lady and a member of Jason Lee United Methodist Church. Halle was a homemaker and loved her rose garden. She grew up on the Santiam River and she enjoyed their cabin there. She also enjoyed sewing and other crafts, animals, nature, her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Steven Toman, and her sister, Lois Scott. She is survived by her husband, Albert W. Toman, her son Bradley Toman, her daughter Janet Toman, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial is planned at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, 605 Commercial St. NE, Salem, OR, on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 2:00 PM.
