James Raymond Alderson

January 26, 1923 - June 12, 2012

WEST SALEM - James R. Alderson, 89, died at his home in West Salem on Tuesday, June 12, 2012. Jim was born in Pittsburg, Kansas to Kirby and Josephine Page Alderson. He graduated H.S. in 1941 and joined the USMC three months later. He was a veteran of WWII serving as an airplane mechanic in the South Pacific combat zone.

He married Meltrude "Mickey" Melchoir in June of 1945, and they settled in LA, where they had son, James Michael in 1947. Jim worked for his father-in-law, who manufactured garage door operators, scuba diving equipment and more. In 1952, Jim moved his family to Mt. Angel following graduation as a Television Mechanic. The family eventually moved to Salem, where they remained. Jim became a Postal Clerk 1960 and was promoted to Maintenance Manager and retired in 1982.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Mickey, son, James M., brothers - Twaie and Earl, and sister, Mary. He is survived by his two grandsons, James H. and Peter Alderson, his companion of five years - Betty Lockwood, and his daughter- in-law, Michele Alderson.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Sat., June 16th at Calvary Cemetery, Mt. Angel. Arrangements are by Unger Funeral Chapel.
