James Steven Pieser

April 19, 1954 - June 29, 2014

Jim passed away at home in Austin, Texas on June 29 with his wife by his side. He may have lost his battle with brain cancer, but will forever live on in our memory. Jim was born on April 19 in Stayton to Theone and Marilene Pieser. He was the oldest of three children.

Jim attended St. Mary's Grade School and Regis High School, graduating in 1972. He attended Central Oregon Community College, worked for the forest service as a firefighter and then enlisted in the US Army. He went to work for the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller and as a Runway Safety Specialist. He worked at LAX, Troutdale and Portland before retiring in December of 2010. After retiring, Jim worked at the Vancouver Food Bank.

On July 25, 1998, Jim married the love of his life, Joyce Lefler. Joyce and her two girls, Erin and Jenna, made Jim very happy. Jim enjoyed flying, traveling, hiking, and helping others less fortunate.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Joyce, step-daughters Erin Lefler and Jenna Lefler, both of Austin, brother Alan Pieser, sister Cindy Smith and her husband Ron, nieces Sarah Smith, Elizabeth Dobson and her husband Brady, and great nephew Brayden Dobson, all of Salem. He is preceded in death by his parents Theone and Marilene Pieser.

A private service will be held at the Oregon Coast.
