SALEM - Judy Bone Mistkawi passed away peacefully on July 25, 2014 surrounded by her family. Judy was born in Boise, ID to Arthur and Bernice (Wyman) Bone of Vale, OR. She moved to Salem with her parents and brother, Willard, in 1943. A graduate of South Salem High School, she attended Oregon State University, and Western Oregon University where she earned a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education.
In 1963 Judy met her beloved husband, John Mistkawi at the YMCA Camp Silver Creek where he was the Program Director and she was the Arts and Crafts Director. They were married on June 7, 1964 at the Salem First Presbyterian Church and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Judy was an elementary school teacher who loved teaching children and took great pride in her work. In 1999 she retired from teaching to spend time with her grandchildren and tend to her passion for gardening which included her many beautiful flower pots. Judy was an active member of PEO and the First Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband John Mistkawi of Salem, daughter Ann Gibbons (Dean) of Portland, son David Mistkawi (Patricia) of Portland, son Mark Mistkawi (Christine) of Salem, and daughter Alisa Grammer (Kyle) of Portland. Judy's greatest love was her grandchildren, Bridget, Isabella, Maya, Liv, Melina, Layla and Finn. She was able to connect with her grandchildren like no other and was well known amongst the family as the very best at pretend play.
Judy will be dearly loved and missed not only by her vast extended family but also by her many friends. A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, August 4, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 770 Chemeketa St. NE, Salem, OR 97301. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Salem Family YMCA Child Development Fund, 685 Court St. NE, Salem, OR 97301.
