SALEM - Roger passed away on October 22, 2013, at the age of 74 in Salem, Oregon.
Roger was born in Lake Andes, South Dakota and moved to the Salem area as a child. He was a member of the second graduating class of South Salem High School in 1956. He played baseball and was a lineman on the 1955 state championship football team.
After high school Roger spent 2 years in the Marine Corps as a Sergeant serving in Okinawa. He married Darlene Savage in 1960 and they have two sons, Scott and Chris. Roger participated in many bowling leagues and played on numerous Salem area softball teams until the age of 50. He coached his boys in little league and senior league. He joined the US Postal Service in 1959 and retired in 1992 after 33 years of dedicated service as a postal carrier and driver instructor.
In his retirement, Roger loved to golf, fish and hunt and unbeknownst to many, was a talented artist. He enjoyed traveling to the Hawaiian Islands and other sunny destinations.
He is survived by his wife Darlene, sons Scott (Gayle) Carda and Chris (Robin) Carda, sister Betty (John) Hammock and predeceased by his brother Ronald Carda and sister Virginia Meithof.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday November, 1, 2013 at 11:00 am at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, 605 Commercial St. SE, Salem, Oregon 97301. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the
