Warren Hawley Obituary
Warren Gorden Hawley

August 1, 1933 - March 23, 2014

Warren was born in Los Angeles, California to Gorden and Aleta Hawley in 1933. He and his family moved to Miles City, Montana, where he lived for the first nine years of his life. They subsequently moved to Ontario, California, and he graduated from Chaffey High School in 1952. Warren graduated from the University of Idaho, where he was a member of the Vandal football team and Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. At Idaho, Warren met Carol Kurdy, and they were married in Boise in 1958.

Warren served in the Army and was stationed in Ft. Benning, Georgia for two years. He and his family lived in various cities in California and Texas before moving to Idaho, where he worked in the insurance industry. Warren lived the past 25 years of his life in Salem, Oregon.

After an extended illness, Warren passed away surrounded by his loving family. His faith in the Lord was strong and he found great comfort in knowing that he would be reunited with his loved ones. We will miss his spiritual leadership, his love of family and friends, and his appreciation for the everyday miracles of life. Warren was a magnet to all children, dogs, and lonely strangers. He found great enjoyment in fishing, camping, and golfing.

Warren is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Kathryn Barker (Josh), son, Gregory (Ann); grandchildren, Kate Hansen (Trevor), Jaime Kuhry, and Emma Hawley; great-grandson, Elias Hansen; sister, Vivian Davis; brother, Joe Hawley, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Hazel Vasi, and grandson, Charlie Kuhry.

The family would like to express special thanks to Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care, and to the wonderful care givers at First Call In-Home Care, who Warren fondly referred to as "my girls."

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice: 2925 River Rd. S. #100 Salem, OR 97302 or to the . A funeral mass will be held on Saturday April 5th at 11am at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Salem, OR with a reception immediately following.

The word "good-bye" was not in Warren's vocabulary. Instead, he preferred to say "so long", and he immediately corrected anyone who attempted to give him a final greeting. So we say "so long" to a family man who we loved and we look forward to seeing again one day.
