Carl T. Wohlbier Obituary
Carl T. Wohlbier

Carl T. Wohlbier, age 82, of Stevens Point, died at home peacefully after a 3 year battle with lung disease on January 5, 2014 while under the care of his loving wife and Aspirus Home Care Hospice.

Carl was born December 14, 1931 to the late Walter Sr. and Thora (Thompson) Wohlbier in Chippewa Falls, WI. He grew up there, attended the local grade school and graduated from Chippewa Falls Senior High School in 1949.

Carl was inducted into the US Army in May 31, 1949. He served his country proudly during the Korean War and was honorably discharged August 7, 1952.

Following his military service, Carl worked as a commission highway surveyor before attending the University of Eau Claire. In 1954, he transferred to Central State Teacher College (UWSP) and graduated with a degree in conservation and general science in 1958. During his time at the university, Carl was a charter member of the Siasefi.

He married Kathryn Greaton on June 20, 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Carl became a dedicated employee of the Junction State Bank. He started as an assistant cashier and became Bank President. While at the bank, Carl also owned Wolhbier Insurance Agency. In 1990 he retired from Junction State Bank and focused on his insurance agency. About two years later, Carl sold his insurance business to concentrate on his retirement and his continued enjoyment of life.

Carl will be remembered for his love of family and his enjoyment of nature. He had a passion for conversation and the outdoors. Carl also enjoyed woodworking and was a talented furniture builder. In his spare time he enjoyed playing tennis, golf, skiing, fishing, and traveling abroad with his wife. Carl was a proud Mason, belonging to Evergreen Lodge #93 and the ROMEO breakfast group; a member of the American Legion & the VFW; the JC's; Izaak Walton League; Kiwanis Club; Portage County Bankers Association; and in earlier years, was a Boy Scout leader.

He is survived by his wife Kathryn; children, Hans of Monroe, WI, & John (Piper) Wohlbier of Los Alamos, NM; grandchildren, Kyle, Shane, Bryan, Jens, Thora, Evelyn, & Lorelei; sister, Doris Campeau of Chippewa Falls; and many nieces & nephews.

He is preceded in death by his children, Kristin Winebrenner & Erik Wohlbier; and siblings, Charlotte Severson, Walter Wohlbier Jr., Ethel Clark, & Richard Wohlbier.

A Service, Commemorating his Life, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 11, 2014 at St Paul's United Methodist Church with Rev. Howard Hintzman officiating. A time of visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place in Runkle Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Paul's United Methodist Church or Never Forgotten Honor Flight. Online condolences may be made at

His family would like to extend gratitude to the Aspirus Hospice staff and Dr. Jean Montgomery for the compassionate care given.
