David C. "Bootsie" Stroik

Of Whiting, Stevens Point died early Saturday morning, October 26, 2013 at his home. Age 79

David was born January 30, 1934 in Stevens Point. He was the son of the late Casey and Clara (Bachinski) Stroik. He attended St. Peter's Grade School, Columbus High School in Marshfield and graduated from P. J. Jacobs High School in 1953.

He entered the United States Army on December 7, 1956 in Milwaukee, WI. He served as a Private 1st Class and received the Sharpshooters Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. David was honorably discharged on December 5, 1958 at Camp Leroy in Johnson, LA.

His marriage to Louise Bembenek took place on July 1, 1961 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Stevens Point. After their marriage the couple settled in the Stevens Point area. His wife Louise survives.

David worked for Consolidated Papers - Wisconsin River Division for forty years retiring in 1995. He was member of the Stevens Point Monsignor McGinley Council 1170 of the Knights of Columbus and the Stevens Point Elks Lodge 641.

In his earlier years he played High School basketball and was known for his time playing softball for "The Flame". David enjoyed hunting and fishing in Canada and throughout Wisconsin. Bootsie was a faithful follower of sports including the Packers and Brewers. His most precious time was with his only grandson. His unique nickname remains a mystery to all his family and friends. In Lieu of flowers a memorial in his name will be established at a later date.

Survivors include his wife Louise of Stevens Point, one daughter Denise L. (Christopher) Stroik-Ostrowski of Spring Lake, MI and one grandson Christian David. He is further survived by three nephews, Ken Grubba, Jeff Grubba and Dennis Grubba and a niece Sandy Grubba Sweeney.

Dave was preceded in death by two sisters, Genevieve Grubba and Annette Nolan and one brother Joseph Bemowski.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Rev. Arul Joseph V. officiating. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Family and friends may call after 9:00 A.M. Wednesday morning at the St. Faustina Room of St. Peters Church until the time for mass.
