Bartig, Dennis R.

Dennis Robert Bartig passed away at home August 25, 2014. He was born on July 26, 1951 in Monroe, WI to the late Robert and Eleanor (Holland) Bartig and resided in Darlington until his family moved to Nelsonville in 1956. He graduated from Amherst High School in 1969, before joining the US Air Force where he honorably served from 1970-74 and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Dennis wed Eileen (Jankowski) at Riverside Bible Camp in Amherst, WI on April 16th, 1977. They lived in Nelsonville where they raised their two daughters.

He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from UWSP in 1985.

Dennis was employed by the US Postal Service from 1978 until retirement in February, 2014. Many people considered him to be their favorite mailman. After retirement Dennis and his wife began traveling and in July had a blast road-tripping for a month while visiting hot springs in Colorado. He took his wife and daughters to Seattle in August for his sister's wedding and enjoyed celebrating with all his siblings.

Dennis served on the Village Board of Nelsonville for many years. He was always ready to grab his tools and put his many talents to work helping all who asked. Dennis was a friendly man and found many people and things in life enjoyable. He was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and hunter. His favorite times included watching movies with his wife hanging out with family and playing with his grandbabies. Everything was an adventure to him. He liked gardening, traveling, wood working, handloading, rock hunting, gold panning and just about anything. He was a jack of all trades. He made many happy memories with his cherished family backpacking, camping, and relaxing on the shores of Lake Superior.

Dennis is survived by his beloved wife Eileen as well as by his daughters, Jessica (Alex) Kochanowski and Allison Bartig; his grandchildren, Josiah, Vivian, Reuben, and Jude Kochanowski; and his siblings, Jean (Steve) Meyer, Kaye (Mark) Pethe, Gary (Karen) Bartig, David Bartig, and Carol Bartig (Lynette Wachholz).

Visitation and Memorial Services will be held Friday September 5th beginning at 7pm at Jungers-Holly Funeral Home, 262 Main Street, Amherst, WI 54406.

Dennis is loved and cherished in our hearts and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
