Gregory P. Shippy
Gregory P. Shippy age 86, of Stevens Point passed away Wednesday August 28, 2013 at St. Michaels Hospital.
Visitation for Gregory will be held from 11:00 AM - Noon on Tuesday September 3, 2013 at the Shuda Funeral Chapel - Stevens Point. Burial with full military honors will follow at St Joseph Cemetery.
Gregory was born April 22, 1927 in Stevens Point, the son of Peter and Helen (Krafta) Shippy. He attended local school and entered the United States Navy on September 29, 1944 in Wausau. He served his country as a seaman first class on the USS Randall. He was discharged on June 22, 1946 in Minneapolis.
After his honorable discharge he settled in Milwaukee and served the city in the Fire Department as a firefighter. Gregory married Bette Jane Koltz on December 16, 1950 in Milwaukee, the couple moved to Stevens Point in 1966. Gregory worked for the Nekoosa Paper Mill and the Portage County Highway Department before being employed at the Stevens Point Post Office until his retirement in 1984. He enjoyed golf, fishing, crossword puzzles, was an avid Packer and sports fan, but most of all loved his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Gregory is survived by his wife Bette Jane, and their two children: Mike (Peggy) Shippy and Pamela (Ken) Wallock, both of Stevens Point. 4 grandchildren: Lindsey (Jerrod) Fahrner, Ashley, Alex, Shannon. 2 great grandsons: Truman and Jett. His brother Myron (Pat) Shippy, Stevens Point. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
