James L. Belmont Obituary
James L. Belmont

James Lorneze Belmont, 63, of Plover, WI, passed away peacefully the morning of January 4, 2013 at St. Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point, surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was the firstborn of Larry and Nadine Belmont, born April 25, 1949, at St. Michael's hospital. He attended St. Stephen's Catholic Middle School, graduated from Pacelli High School in 1968, studied Business at UWSP and was licensed as a Realtor by the State of WI in 1975.

Jim held many different occupations early on, from a Stevens Point Journal Paper Boy, Car Hop at the Blue Top Drive-In and UPS Sorter to a Store Clerk at Shippy Shoes Store. In 1979, he began his career as a Stock Room Coordinator at Ore-Ida Foods (which later became McCain Foods), where he was still employed.

Jim was married to Cheryl A. Rusch, daughter of Harold and Dorothy M. (Shanklin) Rusch, on January 8th 1972, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Stevens Point.

Jim joined the US Naval Service on October 27, 1969. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor where he served as a Storeroom Clerk on the USS Reeves. He was honorably discharged, October 26, 1975.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 10262, active in the Plover Billiards League and an avid Brewer and Packers fan. He enjoyed karaoke, reading, hunting, fishing, golfing, playing pool with his friends at the Lincoln Center, relaxing summer evenings on the back deck, and, most of all, sharing time and laughs with those he loved.

Jim began his battle with cancer on September 11, 2008. He never lost his love for his family, friends, and dog, Buddy. He will always be remembered for his quirky sense of humor, heartfelt laugh, surprising wit and his kindness and compassion for others; even those he did not know well. Jim adored his daughter and took an active part in her life. They share a special loving bond that will never fade.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Cheryl; one child, Jessica; and son-in-law, Phillip Koehler. He is further survived by his siblings, Joan Belmont and Mary (Dale) Rosicky of Stevens Point, Mike (Janelle) Belmont of Pardeville, Stephen (Barbara) of Menasha, Sue (Jerry) Kedrowicz of Schoolcraft, MI, and Robert Belmont of Bedford, NH. He is also survived by Aunt Patricia (Al) Folz of Hamilton, MT; brother-in-law Thomas Rusch of Amherst, WI; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Larry and Nadine Belmont; younger brother, John Belmont; maternal grandparents, Elmer and Helen Zeaman; paternal grandparents, Steve and Isabelle Kalder; Aunt Marge (Fred) Jordan; and Uncle Harry (Emily) of Mountain Home, AR.

Thank you Dr. Onitillo, Jessica Engel and the Oncology staff of Marshfield Clinic as well as Dr. Barakeh and the second floor staff of St. Michael's Hospital. In addition, a very special thank you to Justin, Doris, and JoAnn of Ministry Hospice Home Care. Your love and support meant the world to Jim and you will always have a special place in the hearts of Jim's family.

A service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Boston Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Petersen officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home, and on Wednesday from 10:00 am until time of service. Full military honors provided by VFW Post 10262 will take place following the service.
