Ziaya, Richard

Richard "Dick" Ziaya age, 67 of Stevens Point died Tuesday August 19, 2014, at home under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice Services and surround by family.

Funeral Service will take place on Friday August 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pisarski Community Funeral Home and Cremation Center 2911 Plover Road Plover with hospice Chaplin JoAnn Chase officiating, full military honors will follow the service. Visitation on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Richard was born on November 1, 1946, in Stevens Point to the late Andrew and Esther (Rybarczyk) Ziaya.

Richard served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He entered the service on November 29, 1965 in Milwaukee. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service in Republic of Vietnam and the Marksman Badge. He was honorably discharged on November 27, 1968.

His marriage to Gloria Szablewski took place on August 8, 1966, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stevens Point. His wife survives.

Richard was a wonderful, caring, devoted family man. He loved to deer hunt and looked forward to the season every year. It was not about getting that deer but about being with his hunting partners.

In addition he thoroughly enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends. He was a proud grandfather of 15 and enjoyed spending time with them.

In 1969 he worked in the Stevens Point area for the Stevens Point Brewery, he worked there until his retirement in 2004.

Survivors include his daughters, Tina (Rick) Gwidt of Stevens Point, Sherry Brown of Plover. Son, John (Cara) Ziaya of Appleton. Also survived by his grandchildren Dustin, Heather, Nicholas, Zak,

Devin, Jacob, Tanner, Tucker, Hunter, Maddie, Teagon, Fiona and Biance. His great grandchildren Corbin & Josselyn. Two brothers, Larry (Loretta) Ziaya of Hancock, Ray (Dawn) Ziaya of Stevens Point,

Two sisters, Patricia (Donald) Schroeder of Rosholt, Linda (Roy) Taubitz of Bancroft, and two sister-in-laws Phyllis Ziaya of Stevens Point and Chris Ziaya of Plainfield. Along with nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Kathy Peper, two brothers Andrew "Ike" Ziaya and Jerome Ziaya. Son-in-law Cory Brown.

The family would like to thank the staff of Ministry Home Care Hospice for the loving care they provided for our husband/father.
