Sophie Wahoviak Obituary
Sophie Wahoviak

Sophie Wahoviak, age 99, of Stevens Point, died peacefully, July 1, 2014 at Whispering Pines.

Sophie was born May 7, 1915 in Stevens Point to the late John and Mary (Szulczewski) Wachoviak. She attended the local grade schools, Emerson High School, and graduated from Central State Teachers College in 1936.

In her earlier years, Sophie taught grade school classes in Junction City. She moved to Chicago, where she found employment at the University of Chicago and subsequently found a position at the Argonne National Laboratory. Sophie moved back to the Stevens Point area to work for Hardware Mutuals Ins. She found new employment opportunities at the Whiting-Plover Paper Co and retired from there after about 20 years of service.

Sophie will be remembered for her independent nature and stubborn persona. She had the aptitude for being detailed oriented and well organized. In her earlier years, Sophie loved to read and attending to her flower garden. In her spare time, she enjoyed feeding the squirrels and birds; solving crossword puzzles; and keeping up her home. Sophie was very proud of her "Little Home on Frontenac".

Sophie is survived by nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; cousins; and very dear friends.

Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 am, Friday, July 11, 2014 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with Rev. Thomas Lindner presiding. A committal service and burial will follow the funeral in Guardian Angel Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Boston Funeral Home on Thursday, July 10, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and also on Friday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service.

Sophie's family would like to thank all the staff at Whispering Pines, and especially Jen Schneider from Home Instead Senior Care, for their compassion and excellent care of Sophie.
