Pascagoula

Daniel J. Gunther, a native of East Providence, Rhode Island and a long time resident of Pascagoula, Mississippi and Gulf Shores, Alabama, died on February first of natural causes at Ocean Springs Hospital in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He was 87.

The eldest son of the late George and Margaret Gunther, he was a decorated naval veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Daniel was predeceased by his wife, Joan Gunther. He is survived by three sisters, Rosemary Murray of Warwick, Rhode Island, Margaret (Peggy) Hogan of Cumberland, Rhode Island and Therese Swift of Cranston, Rhode Island; one brother, George Gunther Jr. of Fort Pierce, Florida; three daughters, Molly Springer of Zion, Illinois; Linda Starkey of Hagerstown, Maryland and Margaret (Kathy) McLain of Pascagoula, Mississippi; three sons, Daniel Jr. of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; William (Bill) of Vancleave, Mississippi and Eric of Lucedale, Mississippi and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family has requested donations be made to your local American Legion or Veterans of Foreign Wars. A private service will be held. You may send your condolences to his family at www.obryantokeefe.com
