J.C. McGuire, Jr.

1924 ~ 2014


J.C. McGuire Jr., age 90, of Gulfport, passed away on Monday, August 18 in BIloxi, MS.

He is preceded in death by his parents, J.C. McGuire and Grace McGuire Carr, and his brother, Norman Edward McGuire.

Mr. McGuire is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley McGuire; two sons: Michael McGuire (Lynn), and Jimmy McGuire(Christe); five daughters: Pat Wilson (Bruce), Nancy Allen (Terry), Mitzi McGuire, Denise McGuire, and Shirley Saucier (Lamar); one brother, Dalton Doyle McGuire Sr; Grandchildren: Randy Wilson, Erica Albert, Jasmine Erickson, April Adams, Ivy Meyer, Karmen Clark, Jason Pryor, Nicholas Allen, Angela Ladner, Brandon Easterling, Sam Maggard, Matthew McGuire, Anna McGuire; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Mr. McGuire had a long distinguished military career. He served in the 5th Marine Division, 28th Marines, during WWII, members of his regiment were among those who raised the American flag on Iwo Jima in 1945. He later joined the Army Reserves, retiring as a Major in 1979. He served as Harrison County Tax Collector from 1968 - 1972.

He had educational degrees: Delta State University (BS) and The University of Southern Mississippi (MS). He served as a principal in the Harrison County School District for 30 years. He was a member of VFW Post 2539, Gulfport, the American Legion Joe Graham Post 119, Military Officers Association of America, and the Retired Education Personnel of Mississippi.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Alzheimer's Research.

Special appreciation to caretakers: Christie, Sarah, Tracy, Kim, and Sausha.

The funeral service will be on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at 11 am at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. Visitation will be from 10 - 11 am. Entombment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
