We celebrate the life of Kimy Canarela, Sr., born 22 June, 1923, and rewarded in heaven on 19 March, 2013. Among his many achievements are 62 years of joyous marriage to Ruth S. Canarela, who remains with us to continue as a shining example of their spectacular and exemplary life together. He is "Daddy" and "Dad" to his two grateful children: Gina (Gary) Bardwell and Pete Canarela. His is "Poppa" to his devoted grandchildren: Joe (Jenn) Canarela, Jason Canarela, Sgt. Tim (Courtney) Canarela, Mary Thomas Capley , Dane Alice Capley, Brandon Bardwell, and Jessie Bardwell. He is "Poppa" to his two-year old great-grandson Zachary Canarela.
After having graduated from Gulfport High School and attending the University of Texas, Kimy served his country in World War II and in the Korean Conflict as a United States Marine, retiring with the rank of Major. He is a life-long member (68 years) of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #1160 in Pascagoula, Fire Chief-Elect of the Pascagoula Volunteer Fire Department, member of the "Old Men's Breakfast Club", member of Our Lady of Victories Roman Catholic Church in Pascagoula, life-long member of the America Legion Post #160 in Pascagoula, and past president of the Pascagoula Rotary Club.
Pallbearers are: Jimbo Blythe, Bo Causey, Butch Fletcher, George Granlund, Jim Kelley, and Ray Peterson. Honorary Pallbearers are: Ray Ford, Jimmy Coon, Jack Northrup, Henry Tillman, Carl Stegall, Jim Welch, Don Massengale, Stacie Doggett, and the members of the "Old Men's Breakfast Club".
Visitation will be Friday, 22 March, 2013, from 10:00 am through 12 noon at Our Lady of Victories Roman Catholic Church in Pascagoula with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 12 noon. Interment will be immediately after the service at Greenwood Cemetery on Buena Vista Street in Pascagoula.
Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the American Legion Post #160 of Pascagoula and Elks Memorial Service will also be conducted at the graveside by the B.P.O.E. Lodge #1160 of Pascagoula.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation for the superb care and concern shown to Kimy and his family by all the wonderful and competent caregivers at Singing River Hospital, remembering especially Eddie, Ashley, Debbie, Ednita, Donna, and Dr. Bowman. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Joel Brunt for his help and friendship. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Our Lady of Victories in Pascagoula or your own charity in Kimy's name.
