Rita Marie Bennett
Gulfport
Rita Marie Bennett, a resident of A Connected Heart personal care home in Gulfport, passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 after a brief hospital stay. Born in Buffalo, NY but she grew up primarily in the northern Quebec town of Noranda and also lived in Toronto before retiring to Woodstock, Ontario and San Antonio, Texas. In her later years, she moved to the Mississippi Coast.
Her life was a full one with several different phases during which she gained many friends whose lives in turn she enriched. She especially enjoyed her work with young children as an elementary school teacher in both Quebec and Ontario and her tutoring students in Texas.
She is predeceased by her husbands, John Lindsay and L. Gordon Bennett, as well as her infant daughter, Heather Ann Lindsay and her step-daughter, Mary Ferguson.
Survivors include her son, Bruce "Bo" Lindsay, his wife Paula and their children Bobby and Heather, all of Pass Christian; son, Scott Lindsay of San Antonio, as well as step-daughter, Claire Lawrence of Windsor, Ontario, step-son, Peter Bennett of Toronto, and many additional grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at 5pm at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach, where family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Pass Christian or the American Heart Association.
