Major Thomas J. Gipson, Jr.

1930 ~ 2014

Major Thomas J. Gipson, Jr., U.S. Marine Corps, Retired, age 84, of Biloxi, passed away on August 30, 2014.

He was born in Harrisville, MS and was preceded in death by his father, Thomas J. Gipson, his mother, Bessie Berry Gipson, a brother, Victor Gipson and his sister-in-law, Jerry Jordan Gipson.

Mr. Gipson was a retired marine with 21 years of honorable service to his country. He was stationed in Vietnam, Okinawa, Roanoke, VA, Cherry Point Marine Air Wing, Quantico, VA and Albany, GA and received numerous medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm Frame, a Bronze Star, and a Meritorious Unit Citation. He was a member of Woolmarket Baptist Church where he visited the sick in their homes, nursing homes, and hospitals. He loved God, his country, and his family and will be dearly missed , but we know he is rejoicing in heaven with his Lord, family, and friends. He loved working outdoors where he could communicate with his Lord through nature.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Janiece Carson Gipson, his children, Phyllus (Ed) Justice, and Norma (Cecil) Acuff, 4 grandchildren, Erin (Santo) Commarato, Marci Justice, Christopher Acuff, and Tiffany Acuff, and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at Woolmarket Baptist Church, 12186 Lorraine Road, Biloxi, MS 39532 where friends may visit from 10:30 am - 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Woolmarket Baptist Church or the .

Mr. Gipson continued his giving ways by making an anatomical gift to the University of MS Medical Center.
