Calhoun, Bertha, "Billie" (Bilyeu), born July, 20 1925 in Manchester CT, passed away on Sunday, December, 9 2012. Billie graduated high school in 1943, attended Hilyer Jr College in Hartford, and graduated from Joseph Lawrence School of Nursing in 1947. Married to Larry J. Calhoun, artist and ret. Major on Ft. Laud. police dept, since 1948. She is survived by Larry, three children (Linda Ross of Chester, NY; Carl Calhoun of Palm Harbor, FL; and Kevin Calhoun of Ft. Laud), 10 grandchildren and two great grandsons, and her brother Carl N. Bilyeu of NY City. She was predeceased by her son, David Calhoun of Royal Palm Beach, who passed away in Oct 2010.Billie was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Franklin, NC, associate member of Palms West Presbyterian Church in Palm Beach, FL, and the American Legion Auxiliary #367 of Royal Palm Beach, FL. She was a cadet nurse in WWII. Upon graduation from nursing school, she worked at Broward General Hospital and as a public health nurse in the early 50's. In 1979, she joined the staff of prison service and worked in the Pompano Detention Center until her retirement in 1983. She always said that working with prisoners completed her education. She and Larry were very active; weightlifting, hand-balancing and acrobatics in their earlier years, and square dancing and round dancing during their 60's and 70's. Billie was also an accomplished artist working with stained glass. She and Larry built their own home outside of Franklin, NC in the early 60's and spent their summers in the mountains and winters in FL. Billie was a friend to all and was loved by everyone. She will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec 15th, 2 PM at Kalis-McIntee Funeral Home, 2505 N. Dixie Hwy, Wilton Manors, FL, where friends may call beginning at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Smiley Wiley Breast Cancer Foundation (P.O.
