Dr. Charles R. Bender of Boca Raton died July 25th, in his 88th year. Born in Philadelphia and raised in Camden, N.J., he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II after which he attended Temple University and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathy. He practiced family medicine in Broward County for 42 years and taught medical students at Nova Southeastern University. Charlie was the source of much pleasure and joy for all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Ellie Lingner, five children, Dr. Karen Bender, Denise Hirshon, Lynn Rogowicz, Betsy Remington-Alford, Scott Lingner, 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He will also be sorely missed by patients, students, neighbors, and friends from around the globe. Charlie was one of the sweetest people in the world and a true gentle man. The world will be a poorer place. A celebration of his life will be held at The Glens Clubhouse, 6520 Boca Del Mar Dr., Boca Raton, from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2014. All are welcome.
