Corliss has joined her Lord in Heaven on June 28, 2014. Born near Ashton, IL on June 25, 1932 and raised in Rockford, IL, Corliss attended East High in Rockford, IL and both Florida Southern College and Northwestern University. Residing in Ft. Lauderdale since 1956, Corliss was predeceased by her beloved husband, George Lyle Bennett, a prominent Fort Lauderdale Architect, AIA, and by her parents, Ethyle and Carson D. Cross, Sr. of Rockford, IL and her brother, Carson D. Cross, Jr. She is survived by her devoted children, Lynn Corliss Bennett Groves of Tampa, FL; Lori Bennett Towbin of Coral Springs and Scott Lyle Bennett of Clearwater, FL; her 5 grandchildren, Ashley Lynn Groves, Tyler Bennett Groves, Keaton Ann Groves, Bradley Scott Towbin and Colin Bennett Towbin who were so very dear to her. Devoted for over 25 years to the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation and The Bonnet House Alliance of Ft. Lauderdale, Corliss served as President, Docent & various other positions for the Bonnet House Alliance over the years. A member of Park Temple Methodist Church and most recently of First Presbyterian Church, both in Ft. Lauderdale, Corliss also supported many other historical efforts in Ft. Lauderdale. She enjoyed the love of many dear friends and devoted care givers. Corliss (Corky) had a Joie de Vive, a deep love of music and humor, and a gentle spirit. In lieu of flowers please remember the Bonnet House Alliance and First Presbyterian Church, both of Ft. Lauderdale. Visitation will be at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 718 S. Federal Highway, Ft. Lauderdale 33316 on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm with a Celebration of Life Service at First Presbyterian Church, 401 SE 15th Ave., Ft. Lauderdale 33301 on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 1:30 pm. Burial will take place at a later date in Rockford, IL.
