John Daniel Hejmowski, 84, of Sunrise, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 7, 2013. John was born in Buffalo, New York, on September 28, 1928 to Alexandra Skokowski and John Joseph Hejmowski. He served and became a veteran in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, was an avid pilot and worked for many years for Sheet Metal Union Local #32. John was an active volunteer at his local church for over 40 years and enjoyed working bingo, church festivals and visiting with family, friends and neighbors. John is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Joan Catherine Hejmowski (Clark) and is survived by his three daughters, Lurline Craig-Burke and her husband Donald, Lisa Leon and her partner Paul Hodges, and Cheryl Biegenwald and her husband Joseph; grandchildren, Jessica, Ryan, Madison, Emily, Stephen and Randy; great grandchild, Hannah. In lieu of flowers, donations graciously accepted by Vitas Hospice (www.vitascharityfund.org). A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 12:00 pm at St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church, 8279 Sunset Strip, Sunrise, FL 33322. The family will receive friends at their home following the service in celebration of his life.
