John Philip "Phil" Knight, 85, of Coral Springs, FL went to be with the Lord on October 16, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Born April 5, 1928 in Dayton, Ohio, he was son of the late Ralph C. and Helen D. Knight. Growing up in Middletown, Ohio, during the great depression, Phil learned early the value of hard work and devoted himself to a life of service helping others. Educated at Ohio State University (OSU) and George Williams College in Chicago, he earned a B.S. and M.S. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. After that, he married Ann, his beloved wife of nearly 59 years, and spent over 30 years working as an executive for the YMCA. During this period, he lived in Wisconsin, Oklahoma and Florida. He dedicated much time supporting his local churches and helped raise three children. Swimming on two NCAA championship teams at OSU, Phil carried his passion for swimming into retirement. He will always be remembered for his love of family and friends, and his lifelong service to others. Phil is survived by his wife Ann, daughter Karen, sons and wives, Pat & Julie, Paul & Lisa, grandchildren Tom, Michael, Emma and Nathanael, great grandson, Joshua, brothers Ralph and Dick, sisters Norma and Betty, and many nieces & nephews.
