On February 20, 2013, Jules Avola, 96, passed away in Bethesda, MD. Mr. Avola was born in Reading, PA, to Rosaria Cusano Avola and Ignazio Avola. He is preceded in death by his sister Jenny Avola Binkley and nephew Albert Binkley, and his brother Andrew Avola. Mr. Avola was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, having served 3 1/2 years in the US Army in World War II, serving 2 1/2 years overseas in the European Theater of War. Mr. Avola worked at Raleighs Haberdashery in Washington, DC for 40 years. He was the vice-president and clothing buyer for the men's division. Because of Raleighs' location near the White House, Mr. Avola clothed many congressmen, senators and presidents, from Truman through Reagan. In later years, Mr. Avola wintered in Boca Raton, where he enjoyed the beach, the sun, the manatees he could see from his apartment, and most of all, the company of his very good friends. Funeral will be held at a later date in Arlington Cemetery, Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sibley Cancer Center in Washington, DC.
