Kathleen Zaldivar-Foster peacefully entered heaven on August 17, 2013. Her final days were spent with her loving family surrounding her. Although her life ended too soon at the age of 46, she touched the lives of many while she was with us. Knowing her can only be described as a blessing and we will always remember her kind heart and beautiful smile. Kathleen was born on August 5, 1967 in Cumberland, Maryland to her proud parents Bonnie Wilhelm and Osvaldo Zaldivar. She was the oldest of 3 sisters. As a young girl she went to school in Caracas, Venezuela and moved back to the U.S. in 1992, where she attended college at Florida International University. She obtained her bachelor's degree in education and master's degrees in special education. Kathleen also completed her specialist degree in media literacy from the University of Florida and is a National Board certified teacher. Teaching 4th grade at Comstock Elementary was a constant source of joy to her and she impacted the lives of many of her students. She spent her last year teaching in Aventura Waterways K-8 Center. Kathleen had two beautiful children of her own: her son Osvaldo and her daughter Nichole. They were the center of her world and she was a shining example of what it means to be a mother. Kathleen's husband and true love, Glenn Foster, was by her side until her last moment. Glenn and Kathleen shared a love that few will ever experience and for that Glenn will be eternally grateful. Kathleen was preceded in death by her loving father, Osvaldo. They are now together forever. She was survived by her mother Bonnie Wilhelm, husband Glenn Foster, children Osvaldo and Nichole Teixeira, step-son Zachary Foster, sister Mary Zaldivar (Vito), sister Sandra Zaldivar (Ricardo), mother-in-law Cecelia Herrera, brother-in law Rodney Foster, sister-in-law Hildy Sastre (Michael) and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 31 at 7 p.m. at the Miami Yacht Club (1001 MacArthur Causeway, Miami). In lieu of flowers, Kathleen's family asks that a donation be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
