Bailey, Michael Charles, 79, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, FL following a brief illness. He leaves his wife of 57 years, Arlene (Hessler) Bailey; his son and daughter and their spouses Michael and Jean Bailey and Erin and George Stillman; grandchildren Daniel, Brooke, Brianne, Brett and Niklaus; brother-in-law and sister-in-law and their spouses Lorel and Gary Abrell and Jordan and Vicki Hessler, cousins and close friends Leroy and Barbara Hessler, dearest friends Joseph and Marge Barica; and many close relatives and friends. Born and raised in Chicago, IL in 1933, the son of Mildred Butler, he moved to Florida in 1967, where he remained a lifelong resident. Mr. Bailey graduated from Crane Tech High School in 1951 and earned football scholarships that allowed him to attend the University of Notre Dame and the University of Illinois. Mr. Bailey served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956. He met his wife Arlene in 1945 in the seventh grade and they were married in 1955. Mr. Bailey took up mechanical engineering and joined Atlas Metal Industries of Miami, FL where he worked for over 30 years, ultimately retiring as Vice President in charge of Engineering. Mr. Bailey was a natural athlete and, throughout his life, excelled at nearly every sport in which he took an interest. He was also a very giving person, serving on numerous boards, councils and organizations, and volunteering his time for several Catholic charities, including the Knights of Columbus. He dearly loved his wife and children and was a great friend to countless others, and he will be sorely missed. A funeral service was held November 12 at All Saints Catholic Church, with a private inurnment at the South Florida VA National Cemetery. Arrangments by T. M.
