Dr. Oscar S. Lenit, Jr. M.D. passed away peacefully on April 6, 2014. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 16, 1927. He grew up in that city and graduated from University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1952. Oscar completed his internship at Cook County Hospital and did his residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach and Hines VA Hospital in Illinois. He was honored to serve 12 years as a professor of surgery at his alma mater, and served as Chiefs of Staff and Surgery at the four hospitals he attended during his practice of 27 years in the Fort Lauderdale area. A leader in the medical community, he was also known to be technically brilliant and highly skilled. He was universally admired for his extraordinary dedication, kindness and compassion, not only for his patients, but his colleagues and hospital staff as well. He lived as a role model of integrity, honesty, ethics and commitment. He could be depended on to crack a joke or give his advice when either was needed. He enjoyed golf, painting, playing music and dancing with his beloved wife of 60 years, Bonnie, who proceeded him in death. We say good-bye to this amazing man knowing he lived his life making other people's lives better. He is survived and his memory treasured by his children Stephanie Lenit-Griffin, David Lenit, Amy Price, Sydney Lenit and Reid Lenit, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. There will be no services. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to in his name.
