William L. (Bill) Perry, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, passed away Monday, September 9th, 2013. Bill was born in Hartford, CT., on October 18, 1925, the son of Alice and Charles Perry. He attended schools in West Hartford, CT., graduating from Hall High School. After graduation, Bill joined the U.S. Coast Guard and served in the South Pacific and China during World War II. After V-J Day, Bill returned to Connecticut and decided to follow a career in education. He graduated from Central Connecticut State University and later received a Master's Degree from the University of Connecticut. He then achieved a 6th year certificate in Administration and Supervision. Bill had a long, successful career in Education in Connecticut. He began as an Elementary School Teacher and became a Principal soon after. In 1957 he joined the South Windsor, CT. school system. He was first a Principal and then an Assistant Superintendent of Schools until he retired. Bill was President of the Hartford County Elementary School Principals Group and a member of the Executive Committee of the Elementary Schools Principals Association of Connecticut. He received many accolades for the outstanding work he did for the community of South Windsor. Bill married Nancye Butterworth of Blackstone, Virginia and they were married for 61 years. They lived first in West Hartford, CT. and then moved to Avon, CT. Upon retirement, Bill and Nancye decided to live in Ft. Lauderdale. They moved to the Point of Americas Condo in 1995. Bill was active on committees there and was President of the Board of Directors. Bill was well known for his friendly and fun-loving personality. He and Nancye loved cruises and were well-traveled in the U.S. and overseas. He was very devoted and could be counted on in every way by his family and many friends. Bill is survived by his wife, Nancye and his cousins, Bill McCusker (wife Claire) of Newington, CT. and Alma V. Devway of Columbia, CT. A service will be held on Friday, September 27th, at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 718 S. Federal Highway, Ft. Lauderdale. The visiting hour will begin at 1:00 pm, the service at 2:00 pm and the burial will follow at 3:00 pm at Lauderdale Memorial Park, 2001 SW 4th Ave., Ft. Lauderdale.
