William W. Roberts Jr., a retired Fort Lauderdale Police Officer and Investigator with the Broward County State Attorney's Office, died June 14th at his home after a long bout with the effects of dementia. He was 89. Born in Poultney, Vermont, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army June 1942 and was assigned to the 47 Ordinance Bomb Disposal Squad. He is a Veteran of D-Day in Normandy as well as other France, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns. He was Honorably Discharged in October 1945. Bill served with the Vermont State Police from 1946-1951. He and his wife, Bertha, with baby daughter Connie moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1951. He retired from the Police Department in 1973 as Detective after 22 ½ years. He was with the State Attorney's Office from 1975 to 1990. Bill was a life member of the Local V.F.W., American Legion, and of the F.O.P. He was also a life member of the National Explosive Ordinance Disposal Association. In addition to his wife of 64 years, Bill is survived by 2 daughters, Connie Clark of Ocala, Fl, and Kathy Muring of Oakland Park, Fl; brother Edward of Albany, NY; and grandson William D. Wosenitz of Ocala, Fl. There will be no services. Arrangements entrusted to Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. www.kraeerfairchild.com.
