Obituary

ACKERLY, Larry, born July 28, 1946, went to be with the Lord Monday, June 18, 2007. Larry was an E5 petty officer second class in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era and served aboard the USS Forrestal and several other ground and sea stations. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1973. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church in Lutz, and during the last six years of his life served the Lord by volunteering at the Pregnancy Care Center in Tampa, the Department of Juvenile Justice Brandon Facility and volunteered as a member of the Patient and Family Advisory Program of H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. Larry could often be seen at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center reading his Bible, and he never missed an opportunity to talk with others about Jesus. Larry leaves behind his wife of 23 years, Lynn; son, Troy Jason Ackerly, and wife Tamara; daughter, Jennifer Howell, and husband, Richard; stepdaughters, Susan Williams, and Cheri Colon and husband, Albert; parents, June and Ralph Ackerly; sister, Lynn Moore; brother, William Ackerly and wife, Donna; and three grand-children. Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.
