ACE John Andrew Wallace, 90, passed away December 23, 2013, in Vero Beach, Florida. He was born in Lynn, Indiana, in 1923 to his late parents, Dr. John M. and Madge Wallace. He retired in 1990 from the F. C. Tucker Co. where he provided leadership and made life-long friends as a Partner and Executive Vice President for 41 years. He was also well known for his sense of humor and ability to give concise speeches filled with anecdotes people looked forward to hearing. He had to give many speeches as Partner, President of the Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors (MIBOR), and serving on the board. John attended Lynn High School and graduated from Richmond High School in 1941. The Red Devils were glad to have 'the curly-headed boy from Lynn" join their basketball team. He also played baseball and was always throwing or dribbling a ball inside and outside the home. He went on to graduate from Indiana University. John lettered in baseball and basketball playing basketball for Branch McCracken and Harry Good. He was selected All Big Ten and Third Team All American. John held the individual basketball scoring record for seven years. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi and later served as President of their Indiana Alumni Association. He was President of the Junior Class and the Union Board. John was a member of the Varsity Club. John received the Clevenger Award in 2008, an award presented by the University to I Men who have made contributions through service to its athletic program. John's schooling was interrupted by WWII. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1945. As a Captain, John navigated B-17s on 31 missions from England to Germany. He was proud to serve his country and received two Distinguished Flying Crosses and six Air Medals. Golf was a favorite activity of John's. He won five MIBOR golf championships and belonged to Meridian Hills Country Club and Bent Pine Golf Club in Vero Beach, Florida. He served on their Boards and was past President of the Tri State Golf Association and Director of The Indiana Golf Association. His love of golf and education caused him to become a supporter of the Evans Scholars Foundation which awards scholarships to caddies of modest means. John enjoyed golf, watching sports especially IU Basketball, reading westerns, and working crossword puzzles. But his greatest enjoyment was spending time with friends and family. He lived life to the fullest and was so positive and upbeat. He was a great storyteller and so much fun to be around. Some of us feel that we flew a few of those missions or "taped- up" for a few of those games just listening to him. He could charm anyone with his "cheap conversation" and smile. He loved having his family around. He was a generous, kind, humble man who was a great role model. He will be missed. John is survived by his wife, Brenda Lanning Wallace; children, Jane (Dominick) LoDuca, Indianapolis; Martha Simpson, Portage, MI; John M. (Therese) Wallace, Ft. Wayne, IN; Lu Pennal (Stan Mikosz), Indianapolis; Andy (Heidi) Wallace, Sebastian, Florida; grandchildren, Tom Simpson, John (Lisa) Wallace, Chris Pennal, Emily (Jon) Palmer, Joe Wallace, Pat Simpson, Ann (Jason) Huntington, Susan Wallace, Jason Pennal, Tayler Mikosz, and Sarah Pennal; great grandchildren, Lucas Simpson and Owen Huntington; sister, Suzanne McNaughton.
