LLOYD EARL SMITH Lloyd Earl Smith, 95, of Vero Beach, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Smith was born October 22, 1917 in Alliance, OH. He had been a resident of Vero Beach for 15 years, coming from Tampa. He served in the United States Army in the 4th Armored Division which was attached to the 3rd Army under the command of General George S. Patton. During his time of service he received 5 bronze stars, and a silver star. Later he attended Mount Union College and LaSalle University. He was a Freemason, and a member of the Scottish Society of the Treasure Coast. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Lloyd played the saxophone, and from 1934 to 1938 he played with a local dance orchestra in Alliance, OH. Lloyd was very involved in the First Christian Church in Alliance. As a parishioner he served as a teacher and Scoutmaster of the church's Boy Scout Troop, and he was the coach of the parish's basketball team. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Evelyn Morrison Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the at 237 E Marks St, Orlando, FL 32803. A graveside inurnment with military honors will be held at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth Florida on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 1:30 PM. An online tribute is available at
