PATRICIA JOY ANKIEL Patricia "Pat" Joy Ankiel, 83, of Williston, FL (formerly of Ft. Pierce), died November 23, 2013 in her daughter's home, after fighting her 4th battle with cancer. Born in Syracuse, NY, to Raymond & Mary King Smiley, Pat was the youngest of 4. She was educated in the Onondaga County School System, attended Le Moyne College & was married to A. Richard Ankiel in November of 1950. She moved her family to Ft. Pierce, FL in December of 1965, was widowed in 1975. After her children left home she went back to school and obtained her Nursing Assistant Certification then continued to work as a CNA, companion and transporter until 2011, when failing health forced her to retire and move to Williston, FL, to be closer to her daughter. During her lifetime she enjoyed being with her family, bowling, painting, ceramics, sewing and helping others. She was an active Life member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 40, the VFW Auxiliary, Post 8058, as well as MOC Auxiliary, Unit 0019. She is predeceased by her parents and sisters Marguerite Smiley, Laura Abramson, and Barbara Violette. She is survived by brother-in-law "Vi" Violette. Children: William Michael (Elaine) Ankiel, Raymond Leonard Ankiel, Richard Patrick (Kim) Ankiel and Robert John Ankiel all of Ft. Pierce, FL; Deborah (Julian) Epperson of Williston, FL. Grandchildren: Travis Duncan (deceased), Jessie Ankiel, Kellie (Brian) Harris, Summer Ankiel, Alex Ankiel, Philip Kennedy, Stephanie (Mark) Cunningham, Rick (Lory) Ankiel, Kayla Ankiel, Leilani Ankiel, Teina (Mel) Howard, TheraJoy (Beau) Curry, Tawnie (Keith) Henderson, Robin Hughes. Great grandchildren: TJ (deceased), Hailey, Aiden, Trevor, Christopher, Kameron, Kendal, Declan, Ryker, Paislyn, Jonathon, Austin, Victoria, Talin, Ethan, Tayla, Terric, Ty, Trinity, Elijah. 3 great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, as well as countless others who called her Mom, Grandma, and Friend. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the VFW Post 8058 on a date yet to be determined.
