Philip John Bayer, 96, died March 19, 2013, at the Treasure Coast Hay-Madeira Hospice House, Stuart. He was born in Erie, Pa., and lived in Stuart for 27 years, coming from West Virginia. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with his bachelor's degree. He served in the Army Signal Corps. He was stationed at Camp Murphy in Hobe Sound (now Jonathan Dickinson State Park). He retired after 29 years with Quaker State Oil Refining Corp. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ruth Bayer of Stuart; and daughter, Angela Bayer of Hobe Sound Services: A memorial Mass will take place at a later date.
