ROBERT GRENFALL COURTER Robert Grenfall Courter, age 97 of Stuart, Florida, formerly of Birmingham and Harbor Springs, Michigan passed away at Martin Memorial South Hospital in Stuart, Florida on June 28, 2014. Bob was born December 29, 1916 in Saranac, Michigan to the late Matilda and Floyd Courter. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Donald, Edward, and his sisters, Retha and Letha, Margaret Satterlee, and survived by his brother, Richard and wife Louise, Olympia, Washington, and several nieces and nephews. Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lee and survived by his loving wife, Dottie and step-son, James D. Walker. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1940 as well as the Program for Executives Carnegie Mellon Institute in 1961. He graduated from the Naval Aviation Training Program July, 1942 and proudly served as a Naval Aviator in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant in the Pacific during World War II. Bob worked for General Motors Corporation and retired after 38 years of service as Comptroller, GMC Truck and Coach Division in 1978. After retirement, Bob enjoyed having lunch and playing golf with his buddies, swimming, tennis, doing crosswords, (but not on Sunday) and absolutely loved his great life in Florida and Harbor Springs, Michigan. He is currently a member of The Yacht and Country Club of Stuart, Florida; former member of Petoskey Bay View Country Club, Petoskey, Michigan and Birchwood Farms Golf and Country Club, Harbor Springs, Michigan; Saginaw Country Club, Transit Valley Country Club, Clarence, New York; Flint Golf Club, House Committee Otsego Ski Club, Gaylord, Michigan; Warwick Hills Country Club Executive Board of Directors, Grand Blanc, Michigan; Treasurer, Oakland Hills Country Club, Birmingham, Michigan. Bob is a member of Peace Presbyterian Church, Stuart, Florida and served as Treasurer, Kirk in the Hills Presbyterian Church, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church, Harbor Springs, Michigan. A private memorial service will be held at the Kirk in the Hills Presbyterian Church, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan with interment in the Columbarium Garden.
