THORNTON C. MERRICK Thornton C. "Tony" Merrick, 83, of Vero Beach, FL, died August 5, 2012 at VNA Hospice House. He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on September 28, 1928 to Carl Wesley Merrick and Helen Beatrice Bartlett Merrick. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving aboard the U.S.S. Fargo during World War II. He was a Real Estate Broker, in East Longmeadow, MA, where he co-owned and operated Checkmate Realty until he retired and relocated to Vero Beach, Florida in 1980. A self taught piano player, he entertained at Kelley's Irish Pub for many years as well as some of the local nursing homes. Survivors include two sons, Alan W. "Albee" Merrick and Carl S. Merrick (Susan) both of Vero Beach; one daughter, Deborah K. Weimerskirch (Ronald) of Vero Beach; the love of his life Janice F. Merrick, of Vero Beach; six grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Christine Merrick; his brother Carl "Buddy" Merrick and his sister Barbara Merrick Griffin. A Service to celebrate his life with family and close friends will be held at Kelly's Irish Pub from 6pm to 9pm, Wednesday, August 8, 2012. Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960 in memory of Mr. Merrick.
