WILLIAM "BILL" WAGNER William "Bill" Wagner was born in 1917 in Bellefontaine, Ohio. He moved to Vero Beach in 1952, where he established Geary Research Laboratories known as Vero Beach Laboratory for research on new chemicals in agriculture. He was a member of the Community Church and served for over 70 years as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America as a scout leader, board member, and trainer. He was recognized as an outstanding volunteer by the creation of the Bill Wagner Wood Badge Spirit Award. In the 70s, he served as a director of the United Way for the yearly funding drive and as President of the Vero Beach Kiwanis Club in 1974. He was a decorated Army Veteran of W.W.II, serving under General Patton as a battery commander and Captain in the 2nd Armored Division in Africa and Europe, earning the Silver Star Medal, three Bronze Star Medals, and the Purple Heart. He was predeceased in 2009 by his college sweetheart and best friend, Ruth M. Lerch, to whom he was married for 69 years. Survivors include his brother, Charles Wagner (Betty) of North Carolina, six children and spouses, Ruth Jacobs of Vero Beach, David Wagner (Patsi) of California, Richard Wagner of Georgia, Don Wagner of Vero Beach (Rene Guerin), Carolyn Toohey of Vero Beach (John), and Nancy Wagner of Hollywood, Florida, 14 grandchildren, Lori Bosco, Sean Jacobs, Deanna Jacobs, Meghan Gonzalez, Kristin Wagner, and Ryan Wagner, Michael Wagner, Wendi Kleppinger, Marcus Wagner, Traci McGough, David Edsall, Drew Edsall, and Stephen Edsall, and Jana Mays, and 13 great-grandchildren, Brian Bosco, Ryan Jacobs, Kylie Jacobs, Jessica Jacobs, Nathan Gonzalez, Chase Wagner, Kylie Wagner, Calab Wagner, Ethan Wagner, Lydia Wagner, Madlyn McGough, Dallan McGough, Kellan S. Edsall, and 5 nieces and nephews. 35 family members just celebrated his 95th Birthday in September with a grand party in Vero Beach to honor his life and accomplishments. His lasting gift to his family has been the creation of a family geneology book of over 650 pages with pictures and events included. Donations may be made to VNA Hospice House or to the Boy Scouts of America. Bill was laid to rest beside his wife on Monday, November 19, 2012 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
