Charles Hishta, 81, a native of Palmerton, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 17, in Springfield, Va.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Annette (Gorham) Hishta.
A son of the late John and Kathryn (Chomych) Hishta, he was a 1950 graduate of the former Stephen S. Palmer High School, Palmerton, and a 1954 graduate of Penn State University.
After serving two years in the U.S. Army, his professional career spanned 38 years with Bristol Laboratories/Bristol-Myers Squibb in Syracuse, N.Y., where he was nationally recognized and widely published in the field of gas chromatography.
Surviving in addition to his widow are two sons, Kevin, and his wife, Diane, of Marietta, Ga., and John, and his wife, Ellen, of Alexandria, Va.; a son-in-law, Kai Hui of New York City, N.Y.; and a sister, Anastasia Hinkle of Palmerton.
He also leaves behind four wonderful grandchildren, Kelly, wife of Nick Birkenhauer of Newport, Ky., Emily, wife of Joel Cohen of Somerville, Mass., and Tanner and Patrick Hishta, both of Alexandria; and his sweet great-grandson, Nicholas "Charlie" Birkenhauer.
He was also preceded in death by his loving and beloved daughter, Kerry Hui; five sisters, Anna Silliman, Mary Schantz, Tessie Rowlands, Helen Wills and Sophia Mathis; and a brother Andrew.
Service: After services in Virginia, Parastas will be held at noon Saturday, March 22, in the T.K. Thomas Funeral Home, 145 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, followed by interment in the Towamensing Cemetery, Palmerton. www.tk-thomas-fh.com.
