George A. Costa|
George A. Costa, 84, of Jim Thorpe, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday evening, Nov. 1, in the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, Bethlehem. He was the husband of the late Virginia (Schichtel) Costa.
Born in Manhattan, N.Y., he was a son of the late Gerald and Molly (Cefelli) Costa.
He was of the Christian faith and was a member of Ebenezer E.C. Church, Jim Thorpe.
Costa served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
In addition to being a shipfitter in the Navy, he also attended New York University, graduating with a master's degree in education. Later in life, he went on to teach metal shop in various school districts in New York.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory two sisters, Geraldine Javors in Florida and Jackie Costa of Long Island; three daughters, Mary Costa, wife of Thomas Dobbie of Jim Thorpe, Diane Costa of Lehighton and Barbara Costa of Queens, N.Y.; two sons, James Costa of Pittsburgh and Vincent Costa of Jim Thorpe; and four grandchildren, Ariel, Francisco Jr., George and Nicole.
He was also preceded in death by a brother Donald; and a sister, Barbara Costa, Long Island, N.Y.
Service: Funeral service 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, Shawn E. Clark Funeral Home, 200 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, with the Rev. Nathanael Kennedy officiating. Interment, Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, N.Y. Call 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Contributions in his name may be made to Ebenezer E.C. Church, 441 Center Ave., Jim Thorpe, Pa. 18229.
