George D. Mann
George D. Mann, 67, of Oak St., Jim Thorpe, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Palmerton, he was a son of Josephine A. (Vido) Mann of Nesquehoning, and formerly of Jim Thorpe, and the late George E. Mann.
He was a member of St. Mark's and St. John's Episcopal Church of Jim Thorpe.
He was a 1965 graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School. He was a member of the 1962-63 championship basketball team and was inducted into the Jim Thorpe Sports Hall of Fame with the team.
He loved local high school sports and was an avid fan of the Jim Thorpe Olympians.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served as a Seaman E-3 aboard the USS Cochrane DDG-21 and the USS St. Paul GA-23 during the Vietnam War.
He had retired after working many years as a platform supervisor for Clinton Milk of North, N.J.
Besides his mother, he is survived by a son, Sean C. Mann, and wife Yvonne, of Stuart, FL, two sisters, Pamela Kimmel, and fiancé Russell Ohsberg, of Stuart, FL, and Susan, wife of Robert Kuhn, of Jim Thorpe; two brothers, Lynn Mann, and wife Julie, of Jim Thorpe, and Jeffrey Mann, and fiancée Cathy Jones, of Lehighton; a granddaughter, Emily Monica Mann; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Service: A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at the Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe, with the Rev. John Wagner officiating; followed by military honors. Memorial visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Memorials in his name may be sent to the Jim Thorpe Sports Hall of Fame, c/o Jack Kmetz, 714 School St., Jim Thorpe, PA 18229.
