Harold G. "Dutch" Houser, 85, of Claymont, Del., passed away on Wednesday, March 6. |
He was a teacher for 34 years for the State of Delaware/Brandywine School District/Mt. Pleasant High School, retiring in 1989.A graduate of Tamaqua High School, he earned a bachelor of science degree from East Stroudsburg University and a master's degree from West Chester University.
- He was the husband of Margaret Ann Houser. They were married for 57 years.
He was a longtime football coach and also coached various other sports during his career, including baseball, basketball and wrestling.
Upon retirement, he spent time hunting, fishing and gardening. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed being an instructor for Delaware Hunter Safety. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he grew up during the Depression, went into the Navy right after high school, and this helped to shape him as to who he was his entire lifetime.
Surviving in addition to his widow are four sons: Eric (Denise), Keith, Carl and Mark; four sisters, Ruby, Rita, Ruth and Gladys; and four grandchildren, Heather, Cati, Cody and Kyle.
