Hillmer John "Swede" Olson, 80, of Hampton, Va., died Thursday, Nov. 22. He was the husband of Kay (Evans) Olson and the late Peggy (Lawson) Olson, to whom he had been married for 35 years.

He owned and managed Lawson Seafood Co.
Born in Lansford, he was a son of the late Hillmer and Myrtle Olson.
He was a 1950 graduate of the former Lansford High School and a 1957 graduate of Virginia Tech University.
Olson served in the U.S. Air Force.
In 1957, he was drafted by the Detroit Lions, where he played linebacker. He was inducted into the Carbon County Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.
He was a member of Elks Lodge 366, Hampton Yacht Club, Hampton Roads Assembly and St. John Episcopal Church, Hampton.
Surviving in addition to his widow are two sons, Jerry Lawson Olson (Stacy Queensberry) and John Hillmer Olson (Shannon); four grandsons, Lawson, Jack, William and August Olson; a stepson, Norwood Evans (Michele), and sons, Christopher and Brian; two sisters, Janice Harleman and Linda Moyer (Butch); a brother, John (Maryann); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Carol Beltz.
Service: Memorial service 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, St. John Episcopal Church, Hampton. The family will receive friends after the service at a reception in the parish hall.
