John S. Hock Sr., 91, of Cypress Road, Walnutport, Lehigh Township, died suddenly Friday afternoon, Jan. 3, in his home.
He worked in the maintenance department of the Northern Lehigh School District for 12 years before retiring in 1990, and previously was employed in the same capacity for the former Trojan Powder Company, Parkland, for many years.Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Stephen Sr. and Roza (Unger) Hock.
- He was the husband of Mary R. (Hor-with) Hock since Aug. 14, 1948.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Berlinsville.
A 1940 graduate of the former Berlinsville High School, he was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations with the 12th Armored Division. He attained the rank of Technician 5.
An avid outdoor enthusiast, he enjoyed hunting on the Blue Mountain, baseball, bird watching and huckleberry picking. He also enjoyed all sports, especially in Lehigh Township, reading and spending time with his family.
He was a longtime member of the Palmerton Hungarian Club.
Surviving in addition to his widow are two daughters, Diane M., wife of David Turner, and Stephanie Kline, and her fiancé, Greg Wuchter, both of Lehigh Township; four sons, Dennis J., and his wife, Darlene, and Robert G., and his wife, Lori, both of Lehigh Township, Thomas C., and his wife, Valerie, of Breinigsville, and John S. Jr., and his wife, Sandra, of New Tripoli; 10 grandchildren, Kristi, Julianne, Stacey, Amber, Adrienne, Jenna, Michelle, Kimberly, Jimmy and Michael; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Anna Asbath of Bath, Helen Sodl of Northampton, Emma Toth of Waldorf, Md., and Theresa Pastier of Macungie; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Toth and Rose Horvath; and two brothers, Stephen Jr. and Frank.
Service: Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Walnutport (Berlinsville), with Msgr. Thomas A. Derzack officiating. Interment with military honors, parish cemetery, Lehigh Twp. Call 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Campton Funeral Home, 525 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday in the church.
