Joseph Pelcheck Sr.
Joseph Pelcheck Sr., 84, formerly of Lansford, passed away Wednesday, June 4, in Flatonia, Tex. He was the husband of Jean (Schwab) Pelcheck. They were married 61 years in July, 2013.
Born in Lansford, he was a son of the late John and Anna (Adam-cik) Pel-check.
Prior to retiring, he was a U.S. Postal Service carrier in the Lehigh Valley area for over 20 years. He also worked for the former Pennsylvania Wholesale Drug Company, Lansford.He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served from 1947-53.
He was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, Lansford, and the former St. Michael Parish, Lansford. He was an active member of the church and the community; having been a member of the church choir, a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, Council 2711, and a volunteer at the Nesquehoning Nutrition Center.
He was a very social person who enjoyed time with family and friends. He enjoyed sports, especially attending the sports activities of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid bowler for over 50 years and was a member of the Tamaqua area church bowling league. He participated in the Senior Olympic Games and was a member of the Golden Agers.
He and his wife, Jean, moved to Flatonia three years ago to live with their daughter, Patricia (Pelcheck) Alves, wife of the late Wayne Alves.
Surviving in addition to his wife and daughter are two sons, Joseph Pelcheck Jr., and his wife Margaret (DeLaurentis) Pelcheck, of Summit Hill, and Steven Pelcheck in Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Kera Champion, Joseph Pelcheck III, Kirsten Pelcheck and David Pelcheck; six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jonathan, Carly, Riley, Joseph IV and Joy; a brother, John Pelcheck of Allentown, husband of the late Ethel (Cox); a sister, MaryAnn (Pelcheck) Yusella, wife of Peter Yusella of Summit Hill; an aunt, Helen (Adamcik) Zenko, wife of the late John Zenko of Cherryville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosalie (Pelcheck) Canzoneri, wife of the late Sal Canzoneri of Nesquehoning.
Services: All services will be held in Texas at the convenience of family members. Contributions in his name may be made to St. Katharine Drexel Parish, 124 E.
