LTC Lewis J. Miller, USA, (Ret.), 76, of Effort, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 21, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on Nov. 24, 2013. Born in Schuylkill Haven, he was a son of the late Ammon and Elizabeth (Jenkins) Miller.
- He was the loving and devoted husband of Kathryne (Bauchspies) Miller.
He was a member of Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church, Hamilton Township, Stroudsburg.
During his military career, he served with distinction and dedication in the U.S. Army, having served multiple overseas tours, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and his awards and decorations include Special Forces qualification, Expert Infantry Badge, Airborne Badge, Bronze Star, and other meritorious awards.
Upon retirement, he continued his federal service for over 20 years as a Department of the Army logistics professional at the Tobyhanna Army, retiring in 1998.
We give thanks as we remember Lewis's love for us and how his presence has shaped our lives. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Kathryne.
Lewis cherished the time he spent with his children, Kristopher Ammon Miller, and his wife, Sally, of Chaffee, N.Y., Kathryne Elizabeth Miller of Effort and Col. Rollin Lewis Miller, and his wife, Jolene Lowry, of McLean, Va. He was the loving and tender grandfather to three grandchildren, Cynthia L. Miller, Sara A. Greig and Ammon K. Miller; and three great-grandchildren, Liam Greig, Mica Greig and Alayna Miller.
His love has spanned generations and left its mark on the world of so many.
Service: Funeral service 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Rt. 209, Gilbert, with the Rev. Brett Jenkins officiating. Private interment at convenience of family.
