Willard F. George Jr., 92, of Fifth Street, Palmerton, died Saturday, Dec. 14, in the Blue Mountain Health System's Palmerton Campus. He was the husband of Anna (Smida) George.
He was a machinist for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation for 42 years before retiring in 1983.Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Willard F. Sr. and Mary (Kleintop) George.
- They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in November.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Palmerton.
A 1940 graduate of Palmerton High School and a graduate of the Bethlehem Technical School, he was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater of Operations. He attained the rank of radarman second class.
George was a member of the American Legion Post, Palmerton, and was a former leader of Boy Scout Troop 42, Palmerton.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter, Ann Louise George, wife of Marcel Poullot of Montreal, Canada; a son, Douglas J., and his wife, Phe Fen, of Houston, Tex.; five grandchildren, Sarah, Audrey and Mark (twins), Nicholas and Philippe; and a great-grandson Ariston.
He was also preceded in death by a brother Donald.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, Campton Funeral Home, 525 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, with the Rev. Paul L. Schoffstall officiating.
