William R. "Bill" Gothard, 77, of Court Street, Union Hill, Franklin Township, died suddenly after being stricken at work in Lehighton on Tuesday morning, Nov. 27.
He was the husband of Jean L. (Roth) Gothard since Aug 6, 1955.
He was a dispatcher for the GTS Trucking Co., Bath, for five years, and previously had been the terminal manager and safety officer for IDC Trucking Co., Wilkes-Barre and Lehighton, for over 24 years.After retirement, he worked for the Lehighton Bakery.
Born in Barboursville, W. Va., he was a son of the late William Ralph and Hattie Eva (Ruley) Gothard.
He attended Christ Evangelical Free Church, Mahoning Valley.
Gothard was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, having attained the rank of CPO.
He enjoyed singing in the Freemen Quartet and the Joyful Noise Group.
Surviving in addition to his widow are three daughters, Carol, wife of Scott A. Serfass of Palmerton, Patricia Besz of West Pittston, Luzerne County, and Jennifer A. Gothard-Brownmiller of Lehighton; a son, William A., and his wife, Pamela, of Lehighton; a sister, Jean Beck of East Lansing, Mich.; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother Robert.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, Christ Evangelical Free Church, Lehighton, with the Rev. Gregory J. Laible officiating. Interment with military honors, church cemetery, Mahoning Twp.Call 9-11 a.m. Friday in the church.
