Dr. William Villafane|
William Villafane, M.D., 71, of Lansford, died Thursday in the Mountain City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hazleton.
After earning his medical degree in Psychology from Princeton University, Dr. Villafane concentrated his practice serving the Puerto Rican communities in Philadelphia and Camden, N.J.
Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Pedro and Angelina Villafane.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Vietnam War.
A graduate of Thomas Edison High School, Philadelphia, he matriculated to the University of Puerto Rico and Princeton University.
He enjoyed reading, all types of music and was a history buff.
Surviving are: two daughters, Aidette Villafane of Lansford and Isalda Villafane of Massachusettes; four sons, William Villafane, Jr. of Philadelphia, Marco Villafane in New Jersey, Ricardo Villafane of New York City, N.Y., Wayne Villafane of Tamaqua; two sisters, Aida Villafane and Hilda Villafane, both of Puerto Rico; two brothers, Rafael Villafane and his wife, Delia, in Florida and Peter Villafane and his wife, Fern, in South Carolina; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Peter Villafane.
