Barbara R. Holcomb
Barbara R. Holcomb, of Tallahassee, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2013, surrounded by loved ones.
Barbara was born March 13, 1929 in South Haven, MI to Rudolph and Veldean (Vrooman) Roth. She grew up in Bay City, Michigan, where she graduated from Central High School, was an editor of the school paper, a member of the marching band and was actively involved in student government. Following graduation, she attended the University of Michigan, where she was a member of the Martha Cook Honor Association and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in English, Minor in Journalism.
In addition, she participated in numerous sports and worked summers as a YMCA camp counselor. Barbara was a Congregationalist and member of the United Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Scott Harris Holcomb; and her twin sister, Betty Rudean Roth. Barbara is survived by her husband of 62 years, Lyle D. Holcomb, Jr. of Tallahassee; her sons, Douglas (Patti) Holcomb of Springfield, MO; and Mark Holcomb (Susan Kelsey) of Tallahassee; her daughter, Susan (Terry) Davis of Tallahassee; her sisters, Virginia Rayburn of Elgin, IL; Roberta Rogers of Venice, FL; and Rudean Fairman of Grand Rapids, MI. She is also survived by her seven beloved grandchildren (Christiana, Scott, Lauren, Rachel, Steven, Joshua, and Michael).

Barbara epitomized graciousness and elegance. She was a kind-hearted soul whose greatest desire was to make the world better for all people. She was devoted to her family, raised beautiful orchids, was an avid knitter and enjoyed a lifelong love of reading and music. "Her kind heart and beautiful smile will be greatly missed."
Memorial services will take place at 11 am Friday at the Culley's Meadowwood Funeral Home, Timberlane Chapel.
Interment will take place immediately after the services, in Culley's Meadowwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends afterward in the reception area at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Elder Care Services, Inc., Meals on Wheels, 2518 W. Tennessee St., Tallahassee, FL 32304, (850) 921-5554.
