Donald Eugene Davis

DONALD EUGENE DAVIS, 86, passed away July 13, 2014 in Tallahassee, Florida with his loving family at his side.

Don was born in Louisville, Ohio and spent most of his youth in northeastern Ohio. He had been a resident of Tallahassee since 1975.

Don's professional and personal life was as an educator. He taught English and coached debate teams. He served as a High School Principal and Superintendent of schools in Ohio. Later, after attaining a Ph.D at Columbia University in Educational Administration, he taught as an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota.
He also did private consulting in education and health planning in Minnesota and Florida. Don was proud of his four children. He taught them the meaning of hard work, persistence, self-respect, education and the importance of family.
Don served in the Army briefly at the end of World War II and then as an Army Lieutenant in Cryptography during the Korean War.
He enjoyed dancing with his beloved Joanne, reading, fishing, playing cards, gardening, woodworking and watching college sports.
Joanne (Ferrell) Davis, his wife of fifty-seven years, preceded Don in passing in 2008. He is survived by his four children, Diane Mealey (Tom) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Gayle White (Rod), Jeff Davis and Doug Davis- all of Tallahassee, Florida; his four grandchildren, Karen Cole (Kurt) and Christopher Mealey of Denver, Colorado; Brian and Laura White of Tallahassee; and his two great-grandchildren, Oscar and Charles Cole of Denver, Colorado.
A graveside service for family will be held at Tallahassee Memory Gardens on Wednesday, July 16, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Don's name to: Big-Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee FL 32308.
